Isidoor (Door) Boerewaard (Appels-Dendermonde, 1893 - Knokke, 1972)
Belgian painter trained at the Academies of Dendermonde (under Ferdinand Willaert) and Brussels (under Guillaume Van Strydonck). Close to the Dendermonde School, he evolved towards an expressionist style in the 1920s, marked by powerful landscapes and animated skies in the tradition of Constant Permeke. Settling in Knokke from 1929, he devoted himself to polder landscapes, seascapes and floral natures, imbued with a deep Flemish sensibility.
His works can be found in several public collections: Museums of Antwerp, Brussels, the Belgian State, Dendermonde, the ADVN Collection and the UN building in New York.
