Joris Minne (1897 - 1988) There is a girl in my Netlon (1974 - Lot 50
Joris Minne (1897 - 1988) There is a girl in my Netlon (1974) Preparatory drawing for woodcut, executed in pencil and watercolor. Expressive composition featuring a stylized female figure, characteristic of Joris Minne's late period. Signed and dated at bottom. A founding member of the Group of Five, Joris Minne was one of the pioneers of the woodcut revival in Belgium in the early 20th century. His graphic language, taut and sensual, explores the human body and stylized forms with great economy of means. Minne was also a sculptor, poster artist and illustrator, collaborating with numerous writers and art magazines. His works are held in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, the Plantin-Moretus Museum and several European collections.
