Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, 1979, "Les Chinoises" collec - Lot 22
Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, 1979, "Les Chinoises" collection; short quilted jacket with long sleeves in copper silk, braided trim and ball buttons, satin lining, size 36 writ.
Good overall condition, fabric and lining sound; a few small, discreet stains and minor wear marks, stain on sleeve, slight local settling of quilting; trimmings and buttons present, solid, wearable ensemble.
Launched in 1966, the Rive Gauche line marked Saint Laurent's entry into ready-to-wear, with a Left Bank boutique in Paris that democratized the couture look and made the house a style laboratory for the street as well as the catwalk. In 1979, the "Les Chinoises" collection revisited the orientalist themes dear to the couturier: shimmering materials, ball buttons and braided finishes, here brought together in a short jacket with regular quilted piqué. The model can be worn open or closed, emphasizing the waist with its rounded lines and piped trims. The Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche label attests to an official ready-to-wear production, not an atelier piece.
