Vico Magistretti (1920 - 2006) for Oluce "Atollo" table lamp - Lot 12
Vico Magistretti (1920 - 2006) for Oluce "Atollo" table lamp, first halogen edition (lacquered metal/aluminum, hemispherical shade), model created in 1977, production approx. 1980s - 1990s. An icon of Italian design, the "Atollo" features a geometric architecture in three volumes: cylinder, cone and dome, providing indirect, sculptural lighting. The version shown here corresponds to a halogen version of the early metal series (as distinct from the opal glass versions), sometimes fitted with a dimmer. Vico Magistretti (1920-2006) is one of the great masters of 20th-century Italian design. An architect and designer from Milan, he established himself in the 1950s as one of the major players in the revival of Italian industrial design, collaborating with the most prestigious publishing houses, including Oluce, Artemide and Cassina. His approach is based on the search for essential, legible and functional forms, combined with a rigorous mastery of materials and light. Many of his creations, which have become design icons, are now part of the permanent collections of major international museums.
