Pieter Brueghel le Jeune d'après Paysage d'hiver animé aux p - Lot 77

Pieter Brueghel le Jeune d'après Paysage d'hiver animé aux patineurs Oil on copper With ornamental frame XIX Winter scene with numerous skaters on a frozen pond, snow-covered Flemish village, bare trees and thatched cottages under the snow. A faithful reproduction, executed in the 19th century, of the famous composition Winter Landscape with Bird Trap popularized by Pieter Brueghel the Younger and his workshop in the early 17th century. Oil on copper, a 19th-century copyist's work in the old Flemish style, reflecting the great popularity of Brueghelian models at the time. Presented in a large ornamental frame in carved and gilded wood, richly decorated with baroque shells and blackened moldings, typical of 19th-century decorative production (total dimensions: 72 x 57 cm). Former inscription "AVERKAMP HENDRIK" embossed on the side molding, an apocryphal attribution now preserved for the record. Superficial cracking of the varnish incompatible with a seventeenth-century work on copper, confirming a nineteenth-century realization (cracking carried out during production of the work). Copper : 34 x 49 cm.
