Sylvain Vigny, born in Austria and naturalized in France, was a painter and decorator close to European Expressionism. Settling in Paris, he developed a personal style combining stylized figuration, vivid flat colors and expressive faces, oscillating between Fauvism and poetic modernity.
Active from the 1930s to the 1950s, he exhibited regularly in France and Belgium. His work, often centered on the human figure and urban life, is characterized by a tension between sensuality, mystery and emotional intensity, which earned him recognition in the avant-garde circles of his day.
