Anthropomorphic mask with figure - Central Africa, attribute - Lot 158
Anthropomorphic mask with figure - Central Africa, attributed to the Yaka type (Kholuka style) Carved wood, plant fiber and textile mask featuring a stylized face in polychrome (white, blue and red), with marked eyes and prominent nose, framed by a large fiber trim. The top features a seated anthropomorphic figure, treated schematically. Due to its structure, polychromy and the presence of a figurative superstructure, this object is reminiscent of Kholuka-type masks from the Yaka ethnic group (Democratic Republic of Congo), used during male initiation rites (Mukanda). Ethnographic or ethnographically inspired work, 20th century. Dimensions : 60 x 40 cm.
