Anthropomorphic mask with figure - Central Africa, attribute - Lot 159
Anthropomorphic mask with figure - Central Africa, attributed to Yaka / Suku (Kakungu) type
Carved wood, plant fiber and textile mask, featuring a stylized face with pronounced features (straight nose, half-closed eyes), framed by a large collar of fibers forming hair.
A seated anthropomorphic figure adorns the top, giving the piece a symbolic and narrative dimension.
Its proportions, volume and fiber trim evoke the Kakungu power masks of the Yaka or Suku cultures (Democratic Republic of Congo), used for initiation and protection rites.
Ethnographic work, probably 20th century.
Dimensions: H. 70 cm.
