Anthropomorphic carved panel in the style of Southeast Asian - Lot 167
Anthropomorphic carved panel in the style of Southeast Asian tribal art - 20th century
Large monoxyle sculpture in dense wood depicting a stylized figure with assertive geometric forms. The face features circular eyes in relief, a straight nose and an openwork headdress decorated with scrolls. The body is structured by a rich relief decoration evoking ritual adornment or scarification. Stylized bifid base.
Work in the style of Borneo tribal productions (Dayak type), probably for architectural or decorative purposes.
Rough reverse showing traces of gouge and chisel cutting, attesting to handwork. Beautiful dark patina with traces of brown-red and ochre pigments.
Dimensions : H. 202 cm.
