Path at Rouge-Cloître - Lot 222
Path at Rouge-Cloître
Oil on canvas depicting a forest path animated by silhouettes, in the heart of an undergrowth bathed in light. The composition, built up in depth, highlights the play of light filtering through the canopy, treated with a vigorous, slightly impastoed brushstroke in a post-impressionist spirit.
The subject is located at Rouge-Cloître (Auderghem, Brussels), a major historical site on the edge of the Forêt de Soignes, a former priory that became a popular spot for Belgian landscape painters in the 19th and 20th centuries. This particularly sought-after natural setting is a recurring theme in regional painting.
Signed lower left (reading uncertain), titled Sentier - Rouge Cloître .
Presented in an important Louis XV-style gilded wood and stucco frame decorated with scrolls, shells and foliage.
Dimensions:
Canvas: 100 x 70 cm
