Japan (Arita) & Europe (probably Belgium) Set consisting - Lot 207
Japan (Arita) & Europe (probably Belgium) Set consisting of a bowl on a pedestal and two vases Imari-decorated porcelain with gilded bronze mounts Meiji period (late 19th century)
Japanese-style set combining a bowl and two porcelain vases with Imari decoration (iron red, cobalt blue and gold), mounted in late 19th-century decorative gilt bronzes: beaded rim, circular openwork base and angular handles. The Napoleon III/Louis XVI-style mounts are typical of European mounts designed to enhance Asian porcelain. The decoration alternates between floral reserves and figured panels, in a composition typical of Arita production.
The porcelains have no visible signature on the images provided; direct expertise would enable us to confirm their precise origin and overall coherence, as the practice of composing trimmings from elements of similar sizes was common in the 19th century.
Height of bowl: 28 cm.
