Eugène-Antoine Aizelin (1821 1902) Mignon - Lot 35
Eugène-Antoine Aizelin (1821 1902) Mignon Very large bronze sculpture with brown patina depicting a young peasant woman sitting on a bench, cross-legged, holding her ankle, with a lute at her feet. Elegant, naturalistic composition typical of 19th-century genre sculpture. Important bronze group of fine quality, entitled "Mignon". Engraved title "MIGNON". Engraved signature "E. AIZELIN" and dated 1880 on the base. Mention of the founder "F. BARBEDIENNE, Fondeur, Paris". Circular stamp "REDUCTION MECANIQUE A. COLAS", indicating an official Barbedienne edition made using Achille Collas' mechanical reproduction process, guaranteeing faithful casting of the original model. Model number "287". Dimensions: 47 x 34.5 x 80 cm. The group representing Mignon was first presented in plaster at the Salon of 1880, then in marble the following year, before being cast in bronze for the Universal Exhibition of 1889, where it was awarded a gold medal. Work from the late 19th century.
